You may have the correct gear for your sport, but do you have the correct eyewear?

Many sunglasses can be fitted with a prescription and sports specific sunglasses can provide better optics and less distortions. Performance sunglasses (such as Adidas, Oakley, Bolle and Rudy Project) usually include customisable features such as adjustable nosepads and arms to create a totally personalised fit for the wearer.

Safety Eyewear

Certain sports such as squash can benefit from safety eyewear. The speed at which the ball travels and the size of the ball can enter the eye socket and cause damage.

Performance Eyewear

Outdoor sports may benefit from sunglasses but not all sunglasses are created equal. Certain lens options perform better for certain activities.

  • Yellow tint: Good for dawn/ twilight and low light conditions. These minimise reflections and allows you to see more clearly.
  • Cyclists and cricketers playing in overcast conditions can benefit from a yellow tint.
  • Orange tint: Perfect for target sports and skiing on foggy days
  • Brown tint: Light brown is good for golf and tennis by providing better visual contrast. The greens are also enhanced with a brown tint. Darker variations of brown are better for hiking, rock climbing and skiing
  • Polarised: Cuts out extra glare reflected of the water, snow and wet roads.
  • Photochromatic lenses (e.g Transitions™): Photochromatic lenses darken outside when exposed to UV light and becomes clear again when indoors. Darkness of these lenses vary depending on the weather conditions.
