Basic Sports Vision Training

Basic sports vision involves vision correction with glasses or contact lenses and performance eyewear. Basic sports vision training often consists of traditional optometry equipment and visual training exercises.

Advanced sports vision training however assesses and trains an athlete’s:

  • Central vision giving you clear and comfortable vision for your sport.
  • Peripheral vision allows you to see the game from the corner of your eyes.
  • Dynamic visual acuity/ Eye tracking means you can see and follow the path of moving objects accurately and smoothly.
  • Hand-eye-body coordination gives you control over your movements under high intensity situations.
  • Depth perception allows you to judge distances and the speed of objects quickly and accurately.
  • Visualisation allows them to recognise and visualise patterns of play to anticipate what is going to occur.

Advanced Sports Vision Training

Take your training to the next level. Following a sports vision assessment to measure your baseline visual system and understanding the visual demands of your sport, tailored vision training plan will be designed based on your sport and needs.

The training package includes regular sessions to train your visual system and exercises you can do at home.

We have the latest technology including the SVT unit used to increase hand-eye coordination and reaction time.

We are also excited to be one of the first sports vision practices in New Zealand to have access to the Senaptec Strobe Glasses. These high performance glasses are used to assist in your vision training giving you quicker and more accurate reaction times.

Technology

SVT- Sports Vision Trainer

The SVT (Sports Vision Trainer) is an electronic touch-sensitive board designed to training eye-hand coordination through it’s reactive and proactive lights.

The 32 sensor pads recognises your touch when reacting to the lights.

This is portable and can be used at training facilities so you are not restricted to use this in-office.

Senaptec Strobe Glasses

Originally a branch of Nike, Senaptec have become the leaders in biotechnology and sports vision.

Stroboscopic technology is the latest in sport vision technology. The glasses are designed to improve your

  • Focus/ Attention
  • Timing
  • Visualisation/ Imagery
  • Reaction Time
  • Balance
  • Peripheral Vision

The LCD lenses create a stroboscopic shuttle effect (the lenses go from clear to dark). Multiple levels of difficulty can be created by programming the frequency at which the lenses flash and the period where the lenses remain dark. This gives you a series of snap shots of still images and using subtle cues you visualise and predict the path of the moving object.

This device is an additional tool which can be incorporated into your existing training.

Home-based Training

We offer the Senaptec training app for you to use at home or at the training grounds.

All you need is 10-15 minutes a day to maintain your visual skills. As your sensory skills improve, the app will automatically increase the difficulty to continue enhancing your visual skills.

This is perfect for the traveling athlete.

The app is subscription-based (on a 6 month renewable licence) and can be downloaded from the App Store or Play Store

Reaction Lights

Reactions lights are the most adaptive for different sports, positions and training drills.

The wireless interactive lights are used to help train reactive speed and cognition. Used as targets, the lights turn off when the athlete touches the sensor.
